Developing Innovative Respiratory Therapies Specifically for Animals
Product Description:

"Pulmovet will provide the only complete medication treatment for heaves - A delivery device + bronchodilator + anti-inflammatory."

The Device: The current EquineHalerTM (patented by Equine HealthCare and licensed to Pulmovet) will be specifically modified and patented as a unique drug delivery/medication combination. The EquineHaler is currently widely accepted by equine veterinarians as the most effective delivery system for equine inhalation medications.

The Primary Medication: R-salbutamol (patented by Stirling Products Limited and licensed to Pulmovet) is a superior bronchodilator to racemic salbutamol that has already been approved in the USA. Compared to Clenbuterol the only approved medication for heaves, R-salbutamol has the potential to provide greater and faster onset of activity with reduced side-effects.

The Secondary Medication: to complement the R-salbutamol bronchodilator, Pulmovet will introduce a widely-accepted corticosteroid for treatment of inflammation associated with equine heaves.

Benefits of Medication Regime based on consumer requirements:

The Device:

  • already marketed in Australia, Europe and the United States under the trade mark EquineHaler.
  • faster, more effective and safer  delivery system for respiratory drugs that does not obstruct the horse's airflow.
  • accepted as the superior aerosol delivery system for horses.
  • delivers a high concentration of drug where it is needed - in the airways.
  • avoids high systemic concentrations of drugs (especially corticosteroids) that can have untoward effects.

 The Medication:

  • bronchodilator favoured as treatment for respiratory diseases in humans and not previously available to veterinarians.
  • ten times less dose required by inhalation delivery compared to systematic delivery.
  • bronchodilator has established history in human asthma and rarely causes side-effects (most common is sweating) and is rapid in action.
  • combined medication regime of bronchodilator followed 15 minutes later by inhaled corticosteroid provides comprehensive treatment.

"Aerosol delivery of bronchodilators and corticosteroids will become the most common way to treat respiratory disorders like heaves."
